神（かみ）を祀（まつ）る為（ため）の供物台（くもつだい）です。家（いえ）や事務所（じむしょ）、剣道（けんどう）や弓道（きゅうどう）・柔道（じゅうどう）などの道場（どうじょう）にあります。

「神道」の信仰（しんこう）対象（たいしょう）

前回（ぜんかい）は、「自然界（しぜんかい）の全（すべ）てのものに宿（やど）る神（かみ）に感謝（かんしゃ）し、敬（うやま）うことが神道の基本的（きほんてき）理念（りねん）である」と書（か）きました。

では、具体的（ぐたいてき）に、何（なに）が神道の信仰対象なのでしょうか？　今回（こんかい）は、それをテーマにしましょう。

答（こた）えは、主（おも）に５（いつ）つあります。

１（ひと）つ目（め）は、日本の神話（しんわ）に登場（とうじょう）する神々（かみがみ）。

２（ふた）つ目は、死後（しご）に神（かみ）となったご先祖（せんぞ）様（さま）。私たちは彼（かれ）らを「祖霊神（それいしん）」と呼（よ）びます。

３（みっ）つ目は、自然界の、特（とく）に大（おお）きいものに宿る神。

４（よっ）つ目は、氏神（うじがみ）様（さま）。その土地（とち）に住（す）む人々（ひとびと）を守（まも）る地元（じもと）の神様（かみさま）のことです。

５（いつ）つ目は、付喪神（つくもがみ）。長（なが）く大切（たいせつ）に使（つか）ってきたものに宿る神です。

今回（こんかい）は、日本神話の代表的（だいひょうてき）な神々（かみがみ）についてお話しします。

日本の神話に登場する神々

日本にも、古代（こだい）ギリシャのように神話があります。

日本神話は、「古事記（こじき）」という日本最古（さいこ）の書物に記（しる）されています。

この記事（きじ）では、代表的（だいひょうてき）な神様を紹介（しょうかい）しますね。

伊邪那岐尊（いざなぎのみこと）、伊邪那美尊（いざなみのみこと）

右（みぎ）の男性（だんせい）が伊邪那岐尊（いざなぎのみこと）、左（ひだり）の女性（じょせい）が伊邪那美尊（いざなみのみこと）です。

名前（なまえ）が長（なが）いので、私たちは彼（かれ）らをイザナギ・イザナミと呼（よ）んでいます。

２人（ふたり）は夫婦（ふうふ）です。イザナギの矛（ほこ）で海（うみ）を搔（か）き回（まわ）し、その矛から滴（したた）り落（お）ちた海水（かいすい）によって、島（しま）を創（つく）りました。

そして、２人は「高天ヶ原（たかまがはら）」という神々の世界（せかい）から最初（さいしょ）の島に降（お）り立（た）ち、多（おお）くの島々（しまじま）を創りました。そして、たくさんの神々を誕生（たんじょう）させました。

こうして、日本列島（れっとう）と神々は生（う）まれたのです。

天照大御神（あまてらすおおみかみ）

イザナギが左目（ひだりめ）を洗（あら）った時（とき）に生（う）まれた、太陽（たいよう）神（しん）です。

太陽神ですから、アマテラスが洞窟（どうくつ）に隠（かく）れた時（とき）、世界（せかい）が真（ま）っ暗（くら）になったというお話（はなし）があります。

「八百万（やおよろず）の神々（かみがみ）」の最高（さいこう）神（しん）で、天皇家（てんのうけ）の先祖（せんぞ）と言（い）われています。

須佐之男命（すさのおのみこと）

天照大御神（あまてらすおおみかみ）の弟（おとうと）です。暴風（ぼうふう）と厄払（やくばら）いの神様です。イザナギが鼻（はな）を洗（あら）った時（とき）に生（う）まれました。

「八岐大蛇（やまたのおろち）」という、８本（はっぽん）の首（くび）を持（も）った大（おお）きな蛇（へび）を退治（たいじ）したという伝説（でんせつ）がある為（ため）、武道（ぶどう）の神様として崇（あが）められています。

月読尊（つくよみのみこと）

イザナギが右目（みぎめ）を洗（あら）った時（とき）に生（う）まれた、月（つき）と夜（よる）を司（つかさど）る神（かみ）です。

アマテラス、スサノオ、ツクヨミの三兄弟（さんきょうだい）は、日本三貴神（さんきしん）と呼（よ）ばれています。何故（なぜ）なら、彼（かれ）らがイザナギから生まれた日本神話の中心的（ちゅうしんてき）存在（そんざい）だからです。

It’s an altar to enshrine their “Holy spirits”. We can find it in someone’s home, office, and training hall for Ken-do, Kyuu-do, Ju-do and so on.

The target of faith in “Shinto”

Last time, I’ve written the basic belief of “Shinto” is to appreciate and respect for the “Holy spirits” which live on everything in the nature.

Then, what is the target of faith in “Shinto” concretely? It’s the theme of this article.

There are five answers mainly.

First, the “Holy spirits” which appear to Japanese myth.

Second, the ancestors which has become to “Holy spirits” after the death. We call them “Ancestral  spirits”.

Third, the “Holy spirits” which live on something, especially large one in the nature.

Fourth, “Uzi-gami-sama”. It’s the local “Holy spirits” which protect people live in that area.

Fifth, “Tsukumo-gami”. It’s the “Holy spirits” which live in something you’ve used for long time with care.

This time, I’ll tell you about the typical “Holy spirits” in Japanese myth.

“Holy spirits” in Japanese myth

Like the ancient Greece, there is the myth in Japan too.

Japanese myth is written in “Kojiki”, the oldest book in Japan.

On this article, I’ll introduce you the typical “Holy spirits”.

Izanagi-no-mikoto & Izanami-no-mikoto

The man at right side is “Izanagi-no-mikoto”, the woman at left side is “Izanami-no-mikoto”.

Their names are too long, so we call them “Izanagi” and “Izanami”.

They were married couple. They shook the sea with Izanagi’s halberd, and made the island by sea water fell from the halberd.

Next, they came to the first island by the world for “Holy spirits” called “Takamagahara” and made many islands and a lot of “Holy spirits”.

In this way, Japanese islands and “Holy spirits” had been born.

Amaterasu-Oomikami

She is the “Holy spirit” of the Sun who had been born when Izanagi washed his left eye.

Because of that, there is the story the world had been blacked out when she hid into the cave.

It is said that she is the top-grade of “Yaoyorozu-no-kamigami”, and also the ancestor of Japanese imperial family.

Susanoo-no-mikoto

He is the younger brother of Amaterasu-oomikami, the “Holy spirit” of storm and exorcism.

He had been born when Izanagi washed his nose.

There is the legend he slayed the big snake which had eight necks, that’s why he has been worshipped as the “Holy spirit” of martial arts.

Tsukuyomi-no-mikoto

He is the “Holy spirit” who controls the moon and night.

He had been born when Izanagi washed right eye.

The tree brothers of Amaterasu, Susano and Tsukuyomi are called “The tree greatest Holy spirits in Japan”, because they are the central existences of Japanese myth born by Izanagi.
