自然界（しぜんかい）のものに宿（やど）る神々（かみがみ）

米粒（こめつぶ）にも神様がいるから「もったいない！」

こんにちは、ミカです！

今回（こんかい）は、神道の３（みっ）つ目（め）の信仰（しんこう）対象（たいしょう）・「自然界のものに宿る神々」についてお話（はな）しします。

日本人は農耕（のうこう）民族（みんぞく）なので、古来（こらい）から農作物（のうさくもつ）をとても大切（たいせつ）にしてきました。

ですから、春（はる）には豊作（ほうさく）を祈（いの）る「祈年祭（きねんさい・としごいのまつり）」、秋（あき）には豊作に感謝（かんしゃ）する「新嘗祭（にいなめさい・にいなめのまつり・しんじょうさい）」を全国（ぜんこく）の神社で行（おこな）います。

１１月（じゅういちがつ）２３日（にじゅうさんにち）に行（おこな）われる「新嘗祭」は、現在「勤労（きんろう）感謝の日（ひ）」という日本の祝日（しゅくじつ）になっています。

また、何（なん）と日本人の食生活（しょくせいかつ）に欠（か）かせない「お米（こめ）」には、一粒（ひとつぶ）ずつに７人（ななにん）の神様がいらっしゃる【「いる」の尊敬語（そんけいご）】という言（い）い伝（つた）えがあります。

日本人にとって、農作物がいかに大事（だいじ）かがわかるでしょう？

ですから私たちは、ご飯（はん）を一粒も残（のこ）さずに食（た）べなければなりません！

こうした考（かんが）え方（かた）によって、「勿体（もったい）ない」という言葉（ことば）が生（う）まれました。

また、私たちは食事（しょくじ）の前（まえ）に「頂（いただ）きます」と言（い）いますが、それには「神様の宿っている貴重（きちょう）な命（いのち）を頂戴（ちょうだい）します」という気持（きも）ちが込（こ）められているのです。

山（やま）、木（き）、岩（いわ）、滝（たき）に宿る神々

神々は、山や木、岩、滝など、自然界の大きなものに宿っている場合（ばあい）もあります。

神が宿っているもののことを、「御神体（ごしんたい）」と言います。

「御神体」には、上（うえ）の写真（しゃしん）のように、「紙垂（しで）」のついている「しめ縄（なわ）」が巻（ま）かれています。

奈良（なら）県（けん）にある「三輪山（みわやま）」は、山（やま）全体（ぜんたい）が御神体となっています！

和歌山（わかやま）県にある「熊野（くまの）那智（なち）神社」の「那智の滝」や、

同（おな）じく和歌山県の「神倉（かみくら）神社」にある「ゴトビキ岩」も御神体として祀（まつ）られています。

This time, I’ll tell you about “The holy spirits in the nature”, third target of faith in “Shinto”.

Japanese have been an agricultural people, that’s why we appreciate crops so much over the centuries.

So “Kinen-sai”, the rite in spring to pray good harvest and “Niiname-sai”, the rite in autumn  to thank good harvest is held at all of shrines in Japan.

“Niiname-sai” on 23rd November has been “Labor Thanksgiving Day”, one of the national holidays in Japan.

Surprisingly, we have the legend that there are seven “Holy spirits” on each grains of rice, which is indispensable to the dietary life in Japan!

You can find crops are very important for Japanese, can’t you?

So we have to take all of grains of rice!

By such thinking, the word “MOTTAINAI” had been born.

Then, we say “Itadaki-masu” before taking a dish.

It means “I’ll receive the precious living with Holy spirits”.

The “Holy spirits” on the mountain, tree, rock, and fall

There is the case “Holy spirits” are on something big in the nature like a mountain, tree, rock, fall and so on.

We call it “Goshintai”, which “Holy spirits” are living.

For “Goshintai”, we put the rope named “Shime-nawa” with the paper named “Shide” like the upside picture.

In the case of “Miwa-yama mountain” in Nara prefecture, all of that is “Goshintai”!

“Nachi-no-taki fall” at “Kumano-nachi shirine” in Wakayama prefecture, and

“Gotobiki-iwa rock” at “Kamikura shrine” also in Wakayama are enshrined as “Goshintai”.
